Coming Home! Alumni Weekend 2007
Come home to your dental school for one or both events that will be held at the Ford Motor Company Event and Conference Center (Greenfield Village). Alumni Day (Friday, April 20) will feature Dr. W. Paul Brown as the Keynote Speaker on Dentistry Meets Virtual Reality and the Fourth Annual Alumni Auction (Saturday, April 21) will raise funds toward the new School of Dentistry facility. Dental School Relocation Update
President Stockhausen has announced the start of the renovation for the new School of Dentistry. The construction process is being managed by a General Contractor who will work with UDM and the University's construction management consultant. The General Contractor was selected through a competitive sealed bidding process based on a Request For Proposal (RFP) and design drafted by the Smith Group and negotiated by Bob Newton of the Hines Group (Real Estate and Construction Management Consultants). The successful contractor is White Construction, owned by W. Bernard White, P.E., President, White Construction. Construction began in February with demolition. The contractor has assured us that we will have occupancy of the building in time to start the Winter semester in January of 2008. View Photos.

School of Dentistry Hosts Give Kids a Smile Day
On February 3 the Detroit, Macomb, and Oakland District Dental and Dental Hygiene Societies, and the School of Dentistry co-sponsored Give Kids a Smile Day at the School of Dentistry Clinic. There were 177 children treated with a wide range of services provided including, 139 prophys, 108 fluoride treatments, 151 one or two surface composite fillings, 143 amalgams, and 10 stainless steel crowns to highlight a few. There were 126 staff volunteers, 74 dentist volunteers, and more than 150 School of Dentistry student volunteers. View photos

Building on Excellence Campaign

Special Benefit for Alumni
Graduates of the School of Dentistry (SOD) are entitled to receive $100 tuition credit toward a course offered through the SOD’s Institute for Advanced Continuing Dental Education. This credit is good for courses in 2007 and excludes Alumni Day. Alumni must request this credit when registering. View the full listing of courses.

School of Dentistry Prepares for Site Visit
During the last 16 months the SOD has conducted a self-analysis of its pre-doctoral, dental hygiene, and graduate programs (Periodontics, Endodontics, and Orthodontics) in preparation for a site visit coordinated by the American Dental Association's (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation. This accreditation review process occurs every seven years. The on-site review by consultants representing predoctoral, dental hygiene, the specialties and the ADA, is scheduled for March 27–29, 2007. The School anticipates a successful review. The School is currently fully accredited for all its programs.
