Course Overview

This presentation will provide a forum to discuss current challenges and opportunities in dental practice. A review of ethical and legal protections for all members of the dental team will be highlighted. Topics will include hiring and firing legal protections and guidelines. Review of key sections of the ADA, ADHA Codes of Ethics and the Michigan Administrative Rules for Dentistry. Harassment in the dental office by patients and colleagues will be discussed with specific strategies to resolve uncomfortable or illegal practices. In addition, current record keeping guidelines and best practices will be reviewed.

Course Objectives

At the completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Provide information about current ethical and legal challenges related to employers and employees in hiring, compensation and termination.
  • Review key sections of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Dentistry important to private practice.
  • Discuss strategies to protect employers/employees from uncomfortable or harassing situations.
  • Highlight current guidelines for record keeping and legal and ethical guidelines for access to dental records.
