Prevention, Recognition and Management of
Emergencies in the Dental Office

Course Overview

This lecture program will highlight common chronic disease and other medical conditions that may put the dental patient at risk for a medical emergency in the dental office. The program will also discuss the systemic implications of dental treatment on these patients and will review strategies to minimize the risk of an emergency. Finally, the program will address the office team management of medical emergencies in the dental office.

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the most common chronic diseases in the United States
  • Review history taking, physical evaluation techniques and risk assessment
  • Discuss salient features of specific common chronic diseases, and how they may affect the delivery of dental care
  • Identify patients with specific chronic diseases that may be at risk for emergencies in the dental office
  • Discuss management strategies for compromised patients
  • Manage emergencies in the dental office

If you choose to pay for a continuing education course by check, please note that the check must be received by UDM within ten (10) days of registration. If the check is not received within ten (10) days of registration, we will assume that you are no longer interested in the course and will remove you from the course roster and you will forfeit your held seat. If you register less than ten (10) days prior to the start of a course, payment will be accepted up to the course start time. Refund and Cancellation Policy

A full refund less $25 will be granted if notification of cancellation is received by the Institute for Advanced Continuing Dental Education office two weeks (14 or more days) prior to the start of the course. If a cancellation is received less than two weeks (13 or less days) prior to the start of the course, a full refund less $100 will be granted. Refunds cannot be given for same any day cancellations or no-shows.
