A Hands-On Review of Local Anesthesia
Wednesday, June 20, 2012
Have you ever “missed” when administering local anesthesia? Are you lacking confidence in your ability to effectively administer local anesthesia or has it just been too long since you gave an injection? Would you like to add an additional injection to your arsenal of techniques? Through both lecture and hands on clinical lab, this course is designed as a review of local anesthesia for the practicing dental hygienist and dentist. This course will systematically review theory of pain control, selection of pain control modalities, anatomy, and techniques of both maxillary and mandibular anesthesia.
Participants will first simulate injections on skulls for a “behind the scenes” look. After confidence is reinstated, participants will hone their skills while practicing on their patient partners. You will leave this course with a renewed sense of confidence.
At the completion of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify relevant bony landmarks, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels associated with local anesthesia on a model, skull and intraorally on a patient partner
Describe the tissues anesthetized by the most common types of dental injections and the target areas for each
Restore confidence in the ability to administer local aesthesia
