Lip Repositioning-Treating a “Gummy Smile”: Hands-on Advanced Surgical Training

This course is designed to acquaint the dentist and surgeon with advances in periodontal plastic surgery, recent evidence, new techniques and biomaterials. A detailed discussion of smile analysis and smile design will be presented. Diagnosis and management of a “gummy smile” will be discussed in detail. Periodontal procedures performed to correct and alter the soft tissue interface around teeth and dental implants are the first step in building an attractive smile. A detailed review of diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment options including recent microsurgical techniques in the management of hard and soft tissue problems will be discussed.
The new and innovative Lip Repositioning Procedure to correct a high smile line, patient’s with vertical maxillary excess, short and hypermobile lip will be presented and discussed in detail. Following the discussion and review of clinical slides and videos, participants will practice surgical techniques learned on pig jaws.
Surgical instruments and disposable gowns will be provided for use during the course. Participants should bring protective eyewear and wear comfortable clothing.
At the completion of the course participants will:
- Analyze and classify a patient’s smile
- Discuss smile design and analysis
- Diagnose the etiology of a “gummy smile”
- Learn about recent microsurgical techniques
- Understand esthetic crown-lengthening
- Know how to diagnose VME (Vertical Maxillary Excess)
- Manage non-surgical aspects of a high smile
- Understand the management of a hypermobile lip
- Perform the lip repositioning technique
- Understand post-operative protocol and management of complications

For your convenience you may register up until 3:00pm on the day prior to the start of the course with no additional charge. An additional non-refundable fee of $20 dollars per person, per course will be assessed to any registrations received after 3:00pm the day prior to a course or to any same day or walk in registrations.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
A full refund less $25 will be granted if notification of cancellation is received by the Institute for Advanced Continuing Dental Education office two weeks (14 or more days) prior to the start of the course. If a cancellation is received less than two weeks (13 or less days) prior to the start of this course, no refund will be granted. Refunds cannot be given for same day cancellations or no-shows.
