This course will help participants better understand the biomechanics of the TMJ system and correlate that to the disturbed anatomy and function. Different ways to diagnosis the various TMJ disorders will be discussed throughout the course in order to attain a consistent approach for each individual problem. The role of splint therapy, as a conservative measure, in managing TMJ internal derangement will be discussed during the course as well. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to rationalize the signs and symptoms that are related to the different TMJ disorders and will be familiarized with the various surgical and non-surgical treatment techniques.
A practical session will take place in the form of a live demonstration on how to perform a detailed clinical examination of the TMJ system.
At the completion of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify the early signs and symptoms of TMJ disorders.
- Apply proper diagnostic tools for TMJ disorders.
- Articulate a proper treatment plan for most TMJ disorders.
- Address the need for referral to other specialties when indicated.
- Learn proper follow-up with the patients in order to avoid recurrence.
