The department of Pediatric Dentistry as part of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry is committed to provide both clinical and didactic instruction to dental and dental hygiene students in preventive oral health care, therapeutic oral health care, and behavior guidance techniques for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. Through excellence in teaching and training with a focus on patient-centered compassionate oral health care we ensure, our graduating dentist and dental hygienist gain the necessary knowledge and skills to serve their community.
The vision of the department of Pediatric Dentistry is to be a recognized leader for excellent oral health care for infants, children and adolescence including those with special needs. In addition to providing the highest level of education to dental and dental hygiene students the department’s future goals include:
- Establish an infant oral health care clinic.
- Develop an internship for qualified general dentist, who are interested in advanced training in pediatric dentistry.
- Establish an advanced graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry.
- Coordinate a special needs clinic with other established clinics to provide optimal care to this at risk population.
