In August 1997, the School of Dentistry
entered its third phase of excellence in dental education
when it moved into its new $11.5 million state-of-the-art
patient care and teaching facility.
One of the nation's 55 dental
schools, it is one of only two clinics that house patient
care services entirely on one floor. This design provides
exceptional ease of use for elderly, medically-compromised
or physically-challenged patients, and it enhances convenience
for students, faculty and staff.
The clinic is structured to simulate
the real world of dental practice by subdividing the
patient care area into four general dentistry clinics.
Teams of faculty members and students are permanently
assigned to these clinics so that patients receive consistent
care across time.
With the Clinic located in urban
Detroit, dental and dental hygiene students are able to
serve a large patient pool and consequently receive a
depth and breadth of dental experience that prepares them
for private dental practice.
