The School’s Clinical Simulation
Laboratory contains patient simulator mannequins and
clinical workstations which allow students to use dental
instruments in a simulated oral and clinical environment
that closely replicates a patient care setting. Students
learn and practice clinical care methods in the laboratory
before they provide actual patient care. This clinical
simulation learning experience makes the student’s transition
to patient care more comfortable.
Each student workstation in the
lab includes an individual computer monitor. Video equipment
can transmit images from live camera demonstrations,
35mm slides, laser discs, videotapes, and computer-generated
programs to each computer monitor. Different images
can be transmitted to each monitor, enabling students
to work at different rates or to review instructional
material independently. The School of Dentistry is known
for providing an outstanding clinical education experience,
and these new facilities enhance that reputation.
