US and Canadian Applicants:
Currently, admission to the orthodontic program involves one process: Application process through the Postdoctoral Application Support Service program (PASS). The Department of Orthodontics at the University of Detroit Mercy Dental Center accepts five students each year into the graduate program. Applications for admissions to the orthodontic program will be available in May through the PASS program at www.ADEA.org. The application MUST be completed and returned to PASS no later than September 1st of the year preceding your desired registration. The completed PASS application should include all documents requested by PASS. On the PASS website is a connecting link to the University of Detroit Mercy's orthodontic program. In addition, please send directly to the University of Detroit Mercy the REQUIRED two additional materials listed below by September 15th. Failure to include these required materials will result in application rejection: 1) $75.00 application fee paid directly to the University of Detroit Mercy, Orthodontic Department, 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48208-2576 2) A passport size photograph (approximately 2"x 2", with name printed on back) sent directly to the University of Detroit Mercy. After preliminary screening, those candidates being considered for admission will be notified of a required interview appointment with members of the Orthodontic Admissions Committee. These interviews will be scheduled at your convenience, whenever possible, during November. The committee will make its selection of candidates, and accepted students will be notified directly, sometime in December. Upon notification of acceptance into the program a $1500 deposit is required. During the period between January and July prior to the beginning of the formal program, each accepted student will be sent some preparatory materials, a reading list, and instructions so that he or she may be better prepared to begin their intensive training in Orthodontics. Admission to the Orthodontics Program for all applicants graduating from ADA accredited US or Canadian dental schools is based on academic credentials and candidates are not judged on race, religion, or national origin. All applications will be weighed equally. Foreign Dental School Applicants: At the present time all individuals in foreign countries may apply. Since the Graduate Medical Education (GME) funding is no longer available, no applicant restrictions exist and therefore, all foreign dental school graduates interested in postgraduate orthodontics may submit applications for review by the admissions committee. |
