Research
Student ResearchUDM's Student Research Group has more than tripled in size over the past three years. Each of the members is currently investigating research areas of interest and many of them are in the midst of their individual projects. The increase in student activity is directly related to the increase in NIH student training grants. UDM now has two NIH training grants per year that are a collaborative effort between the University of Detroit Mercy and University of Michigan. To match the NIH funding the School of Dentistry offers two additional student training grants for students who qualify. There is also approximately $15,000 available annually through recently developed industrial contracts that support student training through faculty-mentored projects. In addition to the individual specialty meetings that are held throughout the year, faculty and students attend the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Association of Dental Research (AADR) conventions in the spring of each year. UDM has traditionally had a strong presence at the ADEA meeting. However, the school is also seeing an increased participation at the AADR meeting due to the increase in project funding and faculty interest. Each year a larger number of faculty and students have been attending this national meeting to represent UDM at this highly regarded scientific meeting. This year there were ten papers presented at ADEA and nine papers presented at AADR. |
