St. Vincent de Paul Clinic

In 2012, a student-run free dental clinic was established through a partnership formed between the UDMSOD ASDA chapter, UDMSOD, and the Society of St. Vincent DePaul of Detroit. The project is currently managed by students in the UDMSOD ASDA chapter and supervised by faculty advisor, Dr. Divesh Byrappagari.

On average of two Saturdays every month throughout the year, student and faculty volunteers provide free dental care to the underserved and uninsured adults in City of Detroit and surrounding areas at the St Vincent DePaul of Detroit dental clinic.

This project facilitates an increase in access to oral health care and reduced oral health disparities.  However, the free clinic also teaches students compassion and makes them aware of the needs in surrounding communities.  It is our hope that in their future careers, students feel encouraged to donate time and services to those in need.
