Parking
Free visitor parking is available at the Corktown Campus in our lot at the 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. entrance. Campus Security is on-site.The Dental Clinic
The clinical portions of the NERB examination are conducted in the Dental Clinic Building. The dental clinic opens at 6:00 a.m. on the day of each exam. Candidates may enter the clinic building, find their chair assignment and begin setting up their area.Clinic User Fee
All non-UDM dental and hygiene candidates participating in the NERB exams must pay a clinic user fee prior to taking the exam. There is a fee of $175.00 for dental candidates and $100.00 for dental hygiene candidates. Cashiers Checks or Money Orders (Personal checks are not accepted!!) must be made out to the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and mailed to the Office of Clinic Administration at the address below with a note indicating the candidates name, and Dental/Hygiene NERB Examination fee. The fee must be received two (2) weeks prior to the examination date. External candidates will not be allowed to start the exam until the fee has been paid in full.Send Clinic User Fee to:

Orientation
NERB Candidate Orientation is mandatory! Orientation will take place in an assigned classroom located in the dental clinic building.Chair Assignments
Chair assignments for NERB candidates are determined by the Office of Clinic Administration and will be posted in the clinic where the exam will be taken.Please Note: Candidates requiring a left-handed chair should notify the Office of Clinic Administration ten days in advance of the examination. Left–handed chairs are provided first come first served.
Instruments and Equipment
All clinic units are air-equipped with a four-port system for hand-pieces. This system is compatible with the Starflite and Borden high-speed hand-pieces and Midwest Quicktorque or Titan H air-driven low speed hand-pieces. All units are equipped with a disposable air/water syringe.

Please Note: The University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry does not provide instruments (i.e., handpieces, cassettes) or equipment (i.e., cavitrons/ultra Sonics, Manikins) ALL Candidates MUST bring their own hand-pieces, instruments, scalers, inserts and protective eyewear.
Consumable Materials
Air/water syringe tips, headrest covers, patient napkins, bracket trays covers, waste receptacles, paper cups, paper towels, gauze pads, cotton rolls, gloves and face masks are provided in the clinic. A list of consumable materials available for each exam (Endo, Prosth, Perio and Restorative) can be obtained.
Repairs
The Dental school is required to have a repair technician on the premises during the NERB exams. A repair technician from Benco will be available if repairs are needed.
Radiographs
Candidates are responsible for bringing all necessary radiographs. If a radiograph is needed, digital radiograph services are done in the Radiology Dept., and can be made available to candidates upon request
Sterilization Services
Candidates must supply all sterilized instruments and are responsible for sterilization after the exam. The school does not provide sterilization services when the exam is over, but sterilization bags are available for use.
Assistants
The University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry does not supply Assistants for dental NERB candidates. Assistants must complete and submit to NERB The Candidate Agreement for the Use of a Chairside Assistant form. This form should be submitted to NERB before the start of the exam. Assistants are allowed to enter the clinic area with the candidates to set up. Assistants must where a picture ID at all times in the clinic.
Patients
The University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry does not supply patients for dental/hygiene NERB Candidates, nor does it assume responsibility for any problem(s), which might arise secondary to treatment by the candidate. Patients arriving for the exam must wait in the reception area until the start of the clinic portion of the exam. After the candidates have received directions from the Chief Examiner to get their patients, they will escort them to the appropriate clinic to begin the exam preparation. At no time other than during the examination will a patient be allowed in the clinic areas.
Emergency Management Protocol
In the event that there is a patient, assistant or candidate emergency, the emergency management protocol will be posted inside of each of the clinic areas near with portable oxygen tanks. The Chief Examiner will also have a copy of this protocol.
Professional Liability Insurance
Complimentary insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 / $3,000,000 will be provided through the Professional Protector Plan, administered by Brown and Brown, Inc., Tampa, Florida, in cooperation with the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners, Inc., for professional liability coverage required for the examination for all candidates and their dental assistants taking the patient based portions of NERB Clinical Examinations. (Check your NERB manual for further information)
Please Note: No food or drink is allowed in the dental clinic. This complies with the OSHA infection control guidelines.
