Dentistry (DDS)Graduate ProgramsDental HygieneDoctor of Dental Surgery ProgramThe goal of the program is to graduate dentists who have a foundation in the scientific and biologic basis of dentistry, who are sensitive to the needs, values, and attitudes of the individual patient and to the community at large and who possess a variety of diagnostic, therapeutic, and health promotion skills for the delivery of patient care. This goal is accomplished by a patient-centered educational approach in which biomedical, clinical and behavioral sciences provide the basis for the application of knowledge and skills to patient care. Seven-Year DDS/BS ProgramUDM has an academic program, which enables students to earn a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) and a Baccalaureate Degree in seven calendar years, rather than the traditional eight. Students enrolled in the program spend the first three years on the UDM McNichols Campus in the College of Engineering and Science. The last four years of the program occur in the School of Dentistry. This program is available only to high school students pursuing their undergraduate education with strong academic credentials. Program for Graduates of Foreign Dental SchoolsThe university offers an opportunity to earn the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) to qualified graduates of foreign dental schools. The number of positions for this program is limited and specific requirements that must be met to be eligible for consideration. The purpose of this program is to provide dentists educated in foreign dental schools the opportunity to gain clinical skills and knowledge of dentistry as it is practiced in the United States. Successful completion of this three-year program will result in meeting the educational requirements for Licensure eligibility in all states. Please send admission questions to this email address: dental@udmercy.edu Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD)The AEGD program at UDM School of Dentistry involves a partnership with St. John Riverview Hospital and is administered by the Department of Patient Management. Faculty for the program are full-time and part-time faculty of the School of Dentistry and members of various academic departments. The program shares faculty, clinical facilities and training with other graduate programs.The overall mission of the AEGD program at UDM School of Dentistry is to provide the general dentist with advanced knowledge and skills that will enable him/her to perform evidence-based comprehensive oral care ethically and proficiently on a wide range of patient populations. AEGD Brochure Postdoctoral Program in EndodonticsThis 24-month program is designed to build upon the abilities of a competent dentist and to develop the specific skills and abilities consistent with the role of a specialist in endodontics. The program satisfies the educational requirements for certification and eligibility for limitation of practice in endodontics, and examination by the American Board of Endodontics. Successful completion of the program leads to both the Master of Science Degree in Endodontics and the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Endodontics. Endodontics
Brochure Postdoctoral Program in OrthodonticsThis 24-month program prepares the dentist to deal with the prevention and correction of dental, facial and oral anomalies in patients of all ages as well as provides a foundation in clinical research. Successful completion of the program leads to the Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics and a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Orthodontics. Postdoctoral Program in PeriodonticsThe Periodontics Graduate Program at the University of Detroit Mercy is a 35-month full-time comprehensive program that offers a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science.
